FLOOD DISASTER DISPLACES FAMILIES IN SAMREBOI: GAHCA-GHANA

The community of Samreboi in Ghana’s Western Region is currently facing a devastating flood disaster that has displaced hundreds of residents and left many families in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.

The flooding began on 16 June 2026 following persistent heavy rainfall and has continued to affect the community. Reports from the area indicate that nearly half of Samreboi has been inundated by floodwaters, forcing many households to abandon their homes and seek temporary shelter in churches and other safe locations.

The disaster has caused significant damage to homes, personal belongings, and community infrastructure. Many affected families have lost mattresses, bedding, clothing, food supplies, and other essential household items. The situation remains challenging as residents struggle to cope with the effects of the flooding while awaiting the receding of floodwaters.

Global Aid for Humanity and Climate Action – Ghana (GAHCA-Ghana) expresses its deepest sympathy to all families affected by this disaster. As an organisation committed to climate action, environmental protection, and humanitarian support, we recognise that extreme weather events such as flooding continue to threaten vulnerable communities across Ghana.

We are therefore appealing to individuals and development partners to support the affected families with mattresses, blankets, clothing, food items, toiletries, drinking water, and other essential relief supplies. Every contribution, regardless of size, will help restore dignity and hope to those who have lost so much.

Beyond immediate relief efforts, GAHCA-Ghana is committed to supporting the recovery and rebuilding process. Following the flood, the organisation plans to mobilise support to assist in repairing damaged school blocks, homes, and other community facilities affected by the disaster.

This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the growing impact of climate-related disasters on communities across Ghana and the urgent need for investments in climate resilience, environmental protection, sustainable land management, and disaster preparedness.
